ulcerative colitis

: a chronic inflammatory disease of the colon that is of unknown cause and is characterized by diarrhea with discharge of mucus and blood, cramping abdominal pain, and inflammation and edema of the mucous membrane with patches of ulceration

A 2007 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that teens and young men with high blood levels of omega-3s had greater bone mineral density. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish and flaxseed.
